Ok Serlan, I have been waiting for the new boards to post these. These are magic items I have added to my game. If credit is do for any of these ideas, please tell me. To my knowledge these are new ideas. Comments on these items would be great. And please include your own unique magic items.
New Magic Items
Soup Stone
This appears as a normal, unasuming fist sized rock. However when it is place in any ammount of clean water it produces a hearty soup of the same volume as the water. An adventuring party with a cleric or druid will find this item very useful: 1000gp, 250 XP.
Globe of Animal Sanctuary
This fist sized crystal globe is actually an extradimentional space. Inside is a meadow filled with clover and a placid pond. There is a stable filled with fresh hay and hearty oats. This item can be used to place 12HD total of mounts or animal companions. Humaniods and other creatures may not enter this globe. The food, water and air is in infinite supply. The user utters a simple command word to place the desired animal in the globe. A simple command word allows the creature to exit. 2000gp, 500XP.
Monocle of Detection
This items appears to be a simple glass monocle in an brass frame. However when placed to a users eye it enables the wearer to utilized detect magic just as the spell. The item can be used an ulimited number of times per day, but extended use of over 15 minutes causes the wearer to make a Con save (CL 3) or be blinded for 1d6 hours in that eye. 2500gp, 750XP. |

Here's a humorous miscellaneous magic item.
Handkerchief of (snotty) darkness
Casts darkness once per nose blow (centered on the handkerchief) up to a maximum of 3/day.
1500gp value, 150xp
"(inhales) Ngah, much bedder...I gan breathe...bud now I'm blind."

New magic items are always fun. Anything the players aren't already familiar with makes the game more interesting.
Does the soup stone effect water elementals? I would think it would change their flavor...which means what in terms of game mechanics? Sounds like the makings of an entertaining encounter.
"He held his own against the chicken noodle, but couldn't stomach the pork and beans which fought back with a vengence."
And to go along with the soap stone, add a beerstone for the dwarves (who could then find a water elemental to make a beer that pours itself).
Also, side note, think I've seen the monocle of detection in a variety of different forms...been done before.

Not suprised about the monocle, Ive, but I still like the item. Mmm soup stone in water elemental> Neat idea but I don't think my players would ever do it. Of course I will be running fingers of the forsaken hand soon, maybe the blue finger will be mmm mmm good? _________________ CK the CK

Steve (or Fiff), can you sticky just the first post of this thread? The thread was intended to be used for others to add more websites and so forth, but remain a static tool for new people coming here.
I'm not adverse to new creations, but that is tangental to the point of this thread. |

Soup Stone: I would give it a volume limit otherwise, maybe someone drops it in a lake (but the water may not be clean, but then one would argue, "What is clean" and on.) Oh and maybe once a day.
Its a cool item. I am going to purloin it if you don't mind and perhaps drop it in an upcoming module?
Globe: I would make it glass or fragile so it could break. I like this though because KNights and other mounted indiviuals will have a place to put their horses when entering a dungeon - saving me the problem of having them stolen or eaten for breakfast by a hungry ogre
Monocle: too powerful for me.

The soup stone (and beer stone) sounds really cool. I don't know if its magic should affect water elementals though. Such creatures are more then just the basic element that makes them up.
They should, at least, get a save with a bonus of some sort and even then, only a small portion of them should be affected. Like a pitcher sized amount for the beer stone and a soup kettle sized amount, for the soup stone.
It would probably do a certain set amount of damage or remove a certain amount of Hit Die based upon the amount of the elemental converted into food or drink.
CK's really wouldn't want to make things to much of an "I Win" button for a party, right? |

The point of the soup stone and the globe of animal sanctuary are to show that there are such things as not combat, AC, Saving throw, cast X spell magic items. Some magic items are just plain useful. And honestly in a world with magic wouldn't be most profitable to make magic items that are paractical outside of adventuring. For example a broom with presidigtation permanently cast on it, or a signet ring that know it owner and only works for him. _________________ CK the CK

I agree.
Role-Playing magic items is a very cool thing to have in place. |

Decanter of Endless Water is still one of my top ten favorite magic items, just because of how useful it is, and helpful to people in games that have droughts or you go into a desert environment. You win over people when you freely hand out 100's of gallons of water to refill all of their containers.
I even had a high level PC who went to a desert area he had visited/discovered way earlier in his career and set up a huge irrigation system using the 5 Decanters of Endless Water he had collected over his adventuring career. It was a very cool RP experience for me. He went there because he was retiring and he had promised these people he would return to help them if the gods allowed him to live long enough. They did, so he came back and retired with these people. Set up a really cool city in the desert kind of thing. |
