A hard reality to come back from months at sea to find that the person that truely taught me to expand and develop my personel character flaws has passed.
Almost 20 years rolling dice, every RPG that I have attempted has always made me come back to and appreciate the days of dungeon crawling, whether it was a character ending 12 hour Tomb of Horrors or a 8 month long Temple of Elemental Evil; the comraderie was what drove me more than anything.
I am saddened that I will never get the opportunity to meet Gary in this life, I look forward to the day when I get to sit at his table in the next. My condolences to his Family and friends.
Thank you for the opportunity to post this. |

Thanks for all Gary, I don't know who I'd be without your work.
And my players too...

I never met Gary, my brothers did. I remember when the three of us bought our first D&D rule set. We borrowed money from our father and bough three booklets from a LT in the Army. It's been almost 30 years now...
I like the old game much better than any of the new shit out here. |

I remember 27 years ago being asked for the first time to come and have a try at a little game called D&D with 3 other kids from school. It was the beginning of a passion that continues on to this day, and has shaped my life in such positive ways, and brought such wonderful people to my tables and living rooms, that I cannot imagine what my life would be like now without gaming... and Gary.
I never knew him personally, but he was a hero to me and many of my friends, both then, and now. With his passing he becomes an immortalised legend in the imagination and passion of those who dwell in his worlds. And it is with a deep sense of sadness that I write these words, but also with a profound sense of joy at having lived in the time of the great dungeon master, Gary Gaygax.
RIP dear Gary... |

Gary, I can't thank you enough for what you created. That Holmes box set I found when I was twelve or so set me on the path which eventually led to my husband. I've had many wonderful years of fun and excitement because of AD&D, and met many great friends from it as well. I'm glad Sieg and I were finally able to meet you, it was a dream we'd both had as teenagers. I just wish we could have done it years earlier...

I feel terrible for not replying sooner (just found out about this forum today).
I have never met Gary Gygax, but I have played AD&D and several other RPGs. I can say without a doubt that I owe him a great deal of thanks for his effect on my life.
My brothers (all three of them) and I spent a moment in silence when we heard about this. Thank you Gary Gygax. |

This is my first post, and I apologize if there are rules about how I need to post an intro, or whatever. And sorry if this is a "Dead" thread
But I just wanted to say, I didn't know Gary Gygax personally, but I can say with no BS that AD&D and eventually the newer Dungeons and Dragons, which weren't his doing but which were spawned by his original idea, helped me get through my mother's battle with cancer and her eventual demise when I was 8 and 9 years old.
Thanks for carrying my 9 year old mind away when it was too hard to deal with the real world. You will be missed. |

The threads not dead as long as folks want to post to it. Thats what it's here for. Know that the Gygax's read it from time to time and appreciate any and all sentiments left. _________________ "We'll go out through the kitchen!" Tanis Half-Elven
