Thanks for all the laughs, the excitement, and the camaraderie. I hope I get a chance to meet you on the other side.
A world without Gary's effect is almost unthinkable.
I only hope we all can look back and hear so many people saying how much we touched their lives. This tribute is truly amazing.

In Honour of the grandfather of all roleplaying games, I bow for Gary "Gigantic" Gygax.
I thank him for hundreds of evenings playing paladins, fighters, dwarves, thiefs, priests, murderer or half-gods..
The RPG lost his Nr.1 !
Without him nearly every computergame wouldn´t be existing like it is..
May the gods be with you !
SniMuh
(Sie nannten ihn Muh !)
P.S.: Sad coincidence that i started developing my own rpg system right at the time the DM No.1 faded away...i hope one day i can play with him my system somewhere out there ... |

There is nothing more limiting in life than one's imagination.
Gary changed my life by opening up my mind to the imagined worlds out there. I am saddened by the loss of one such as him and more saddened for his family and friends because my loss is but a shadow of thier's. He was a great man. I regret never having had the chance to meet him in this world, perhaps in the next.
God speed Gary...rest well. |

I don't know what to say. I never met him in-person, but I feel like part of my family passed away. This is truly a tragedy.
Rest in peace, Gary. You will be dearly missed. |
100% true, I'm really sad since I heard about that.
RIP Gary |

Well, I only read that news today as I googled Gygax. In France they don't seem to bother, since it was translated in French in the 80s. However there are children like me who used DnD to learn English, and not that average international business English talking. As an average learner, my teachers were impressed by some of my deep knowledge I acquired role playing. So when the first publications of the game appeared I was a big fan of Wargames and through my readings in wargame magazines I recall it is there where the game was first mentioned. I had ties with the US and I remember when as a fan of wargames I crossed the bridge to role playing and D&d as some kind of a different experience.
I must insist on the fact that in the 70s the gaming approach regarding Wargames and Role Playing was much more intellectual and everybody had it's own opinion about concepts and used to add creative rules and while gaming in clubs used to share. There is nothing like this today when it has become big business without soul, and basically chilled the rules and rendred them somehow ungrounded and sterilized, too predictible and annoying.
We still use to gather every weekend my friends and I to play and some for 30 years like me never stopped playing and followed quite every step and version of the rules. I went to Warhammer and Call of Cthulu and others but always came back to the original. Also from time to time, I came back to the original first version of the rules as the latter are to far from Tolkien and Howard and original myths of our old civilizations. |

A sad day for all RPers! So long and thank you, Gary, for all the fun around a table fighting dragons and trolls...
As a true RPer, I propose we respect 1D20 minutes of silence in Gary's memory. |

From the imagination of Mr Gygax and his friends, was spawned perhaps the greatest game ever created. Not only have me & those close to me enjoyed literally thousands of hours of fun & relaxation, but the genius of the game also nurtured the social, communication. organizational, and facilitation skills so critical to succeed in the world of business today. It also inspired in me a deep interest in ancient cultures & civilizations which has transformed mine, and others, perspective of the world.
Thank-you Gary, I don't know who I'd be without your positive influence. I hope that God gives you your rightful due as Archangel of Inspiration. |

|
|
Just thought everyone would like to note Blizzard Entertainment's tribute to Gary in the newest patch notes for World of Warcraft, which were released with the new patch today.
| Quote: |
| Blizzard Entertainment would like to dedicate the patch in memory of Gary Gygax. His work on D&D was an inspiration to us in many ways and helped spark our passion for creating games of our own. As avid D&D players and fellow game developers, we were all saddened by the news of his passing; we feel we’ve lost a true adventuring companion. Thanks for everything and farewell, Gary. You will be missed. |

I have no words fitting for such a loss, but to be moved by sorrow for a man I only knew of and never really knew.....
Thank you Kind Sir!.... May you find peace, joy, and a camp fire for the stories you have yet to tell.
May we all some day be blessed once more to hear them. |
