Thanks for opening this up for guests. All day long, I've been haunted by the days when I was a child, and I first opened up his books and found pure magic inside. I still remember the texture of those hardcovers, the smell of the pages, and the endless words of fantastic imagination, transcribed into a language of rules for gamers all over the world.

Gary Gygax was truly a genius. My condolenses to his family and close friends. His passing is felt by us all.

I can not begin to imagine all the things my life would be poorer for if not for Gary. My sincerest condolences to his family, his friends and all the rest like me who never had the chance to meet him. He shared his imagination with us all. Godspeed Goodsir!

It’s a sad day for us all. I shall remember him as a father who’s vision in the gaming area has led my life to what it is now. I have never met him, yet I cry his passing and pray for his family.

I still can't believe this is happening...

As I like to say :

"Nous croyons être affligés de la mort d'une personne, quand c'est la mort seule qui fait impression sur nous."
(We think we're sad about the death of someone, when it is only Death itself that impresses us)

So instead of beeing sad that a Great Man has passed, we should be glad that what he left us is still alive in our ever-loving hearts. I think that the best way to show our thanks to him is to do what he allowed us to do : play !

Adrien Renault-Gauthey, Paris, France

PS : many thanks to the Admin that permitted us to express our feelings and sorry for the bad english

I don't know what to say. I never met him in-person, but I feel like part of my family passed away. This is truly a tragedy. Sad

Rest in peace, Gary. You will be dearly missed.

My friend just sent me the link to this and gave me this information. I know to many of you this hit hard but no harder then it did for me. I have lost touch with Gary over the years but Gary was family to me.

I have known Gary for most of my life, as he was good friends with my father and part of my life and like my uncle as I was growing up. I reconnected with him, as I was a young woman at the conventions. I got the privilege of meeting family, about 20 years ago which seems like yesterday.

I talked to him on many occasions after that but as what happens on many occasions our lives get busy and we forget to stay in touch even though we think about the person often.

For a while there our paths would cross every few years and that was always great.

My thoughts go out to the loved ones left behind.

You went through a long hard struggle for a long time. Yet not a day of that had your fans every forgotten who you were or ever lost faith in you. Thank you for never giving up. From D&D (TSR), your books, your own company, Dangerous Dungeons, TSR and some ventures with DDO and I am sure I have missed some other wonderful adventures along the way. Your life took a full circle did not it Gary. We will miss you and morn this day yet be thankful that we had the opportunity to know the name Gary Gygax.

He had vision and creativity and had a way of making something that opened your mind and allowed you to make your own world. Gary preferred to sit in the game and be the player not the DM. He much preferred to allow someone else run the game and let the world unfold in front of him and be surprised. So I hope wherever he is now the adventures are unfolding in front of him every minute.

I will always cherish the talks, laughs, and memories we have had. This post goes to show that you touched so many people’s lives that you never met. It was easy for you to touch the lives of those of us that knew you. For every person that felt they were a misfit, shy, loner or just creative and wanted to game Thank you.

Gary we will miss you,

Your almost niece,

Malinda Franco (Powell)

In a world filled with sadness, loss of belief and cause we shall mourn a man who gave us his own way for a side-quest in our real life's main campaign.

Gary we shall sorely miss you.

I played very few D&D games in my life (except with C&C), but I had great respect for the patriarch of my favourite hobby.

69 years is too young to die, I'm sure Gary was still planning amazing creations. I hope he's already back to work, out there.

I did not know him except through the games he created. I started playing in 4th grade with the old blue book and on again, off again ever since. 30 years, it has been quite a ride. All I can say is thanks. I am sorry for the loss his friends and family must be experiencing. Crying or Very sad

Gary was the creator of a great game, I am not too old but his creation was in my childhood and is a great part of mine. I think is time to retake that all in his name...only because here in spain in the news there was no sad new about this fact...Thanks a lot for all Gary
