The Companion Expansion presents additional classes, spells, weapons and equipment, creatures and magical items for fantasy roleplaying games for basic- and expert-level players and gamemasters. It includes 7 additional character classes (bard, druid, gnome, half-elf/half-orc, half-ogre, illusionist, scout), expanded experience, combat, and saving throw tables, two additional types of magic (druid and illusion) and additional magic-user and cleric spells (90 in all), over 130 new or additional creatures (with a comprehensive index and suggested experience point awards), dozens of new or additional magic items, and extended treasure generation tables. There are also expanded spell tables for use with Labyrinth Lord, Basic Fantasy, and Swords & Wizardry.
These rules will be the basis for the WORLD OF STRONGHOLD gazetteer(s) as that setting is further developed. There will be additional or variant monsters and classes presented, and other information including stronghold establishment and management and additional information on maritime adventuring and combat, but I felt that a “world neutral” version could be immediately useful to GMs running basic- and expert- level games.
The free download version (110 pp.) is now available at my lulu storefront, which you can access via http://www.barrataria.com. Print-on-demand (8.5x11” perfect bound) should be available in the next few weeks from lulu and hopefully amazon.com thereafter. Depending on demand, a coil-bound version may also be available. Unfortunately, economic considerations at Barrataria Games preclude production of box sets at this time.
Many thanks to Kurt/dreadnought, R. Lawrence Blake, and Jason/gnombient, Ian/cardman, and Samuel/buckky (a.k.a. Heroes of the Iron Trail) for their input and support at various points in development.
Note that you MUST have a base rulebook to make use of this volume as it does not include character generation information nor does it repeat basic and expert class information or spells.
Please email me with any comments or corrections, so that those can be integrated before the print version is released._________________ Fantasy Roleplaying Supplements for Basic, Expert, and Advanced games, free for download or print-on-demand and available now!: http://www.barrataria.com/ |

| Looks great Barrataria. I can't help wondering how it will affect B/X Blackrazor and his long awaited B/X Companion. I guess it's a bit like the several different Holmes expansions floating around out there - nobody seems to mind as it gives people the ability to pick and choose. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the illustrated version of the Companion Expansion.

This product is brilliant. Taken together, LL plus the CE makes for an exceedingly elegant, streamlined, and very complete RPG, perhaps even more elegant than the Rules Cyclopedia. Well done!
(If I had any gripe at all with your Companion Expansion, it would be the lack of a monk class, but really that's the only fault I can find with it, and it's a minor one at that. )_________________ Ludandi Gratia: For the Sake of Gaming.

Thanks JD... I didn't think the "thugs" or monks belonged in a Companion supplement; no spell-using fighters either. I like "Advanced" games, but that's not what the Companion Expansion is really built to do._________________ Fantasy Roleplaying Supplements for Basic, Expert, and Advanced games, free for download or print-on-demand and available now!: http://www.barrataria.com/ |

That doesn't sound right.... I'll check it out tonight or tomorrow morning. I just uploaded a revised version (I ordered a proof copy of the print version to review, and posted a new download with all those changes) and might have a setting off somewhere. Sorry for the inconvenience... please don't hesitate to email me via my website for stuff like this._________________ Fantasy Roleplaying Supplements for Basic, Expert, and Advanced games, free for download or print-on-demand and available now!: http://www.barrataria.com/ |
